Last year, Jasper entered the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year with an image entitled ‘Mr Melon Head’; he did rather well coming in 3rd in his category, with highly recommended for his other entries.
Keen to build on his successes in 2014, his idea behind his 2015 entry was to show that healthy food could look fun! Jasper wanted to portray organic vegetables, or products that could be grown in your garden. And he wanted to try to show them in the setting that they would be grown, hence a back garden and ‘Carrots on a Line’.
Jasper explains, “I wanted to show that by growing your own carrots, not buying them from a shop, is much better for you. Hanging them on the washing line shows just how bright and colourful they are in their natural setting – in this case, our garden.”
He entered three pieces and all three were shortlisted, and went to the public vote. The other two pieces were highly commended and ‘Carrots on a Line’, came second!
Jasper’s little brother, Isaac, 8, also entered three images into the Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year, one of which was shortlisted and went to the public vote! The photography gene obviously runs in the family as Nicky, his mum, also had an image shortlisted in the category ‘Food for Celebration’. Well done Family Callis for your success so far, quite an achievement. Perhaps 2016 will be your year!
